Love Vail, the organization for sustainability initiatives for the town of Vail, Colorado, put out a request for proposals to help bring a new vitality to the signage along Gore Creek’s hiking trails. Vermilion responded to the request with an interactive, proof-of-concept game a la Pokemon GO style.

In the web-based, augmented reality game young hikers would be prompted along the trails with special plaques bearing the Love Vail logo. These plaques indicate that some of the area’s AR wildlife are nearby. When the user points their phone at the marker, they see 3D models of the wildlife and are prompted to learn more about how the animals are impacted by the creek’s ecosystem, and what they can do to ensure that Gore Creek stays beautiful and prosperous for future generations.

Vail ultimately chose a different approach for this initiative, but are hopeful that this technology can be put to use in a future application.
